<p>O sistema vestibular é o conjunto de órgãos do ouvido interno responsáveis pela manutenção do equilíbrio.</p> <p>A VPPB (vertigem posicional paroxística benigna) é uma das mais frequentes patologias do sistema vestibular e é caracterizada por episódios de vertigens recorrentes desencadeados por movimentos da cabeça ou mudanças posturais. As pessoas podem sentir tonturas, vertigem, instabilidade, perda de equilíbrio e náuseas.</p> <p>A VPPB é, de longe, a mais comum causa de vertigem rotatória, com uma prevalência entre 10,7 e 64,0 casos a cada 100.000 habitantes. A prevalência da VPPB idiopática é aumentada em idosos e entre mulheres, com pico de início entre 50 e 60 anos de idade com mulheres 2 a 3 vezes mais afetadas que os homens.</p> <p>Os pacientes apresentam um risco aumentado de quedas e comprometimento no desempenho de atividades diárias. A Fisioterapia se mostra extremamente importante no tratamento. Segundo estudos, manobras terapêuticas, principalmente a de Epley e de Semont, apresentam eficácia em 95% dos casos.</p>
