Excessive Use of Force Against Youth in Venezuela
On March 5, 2014, while the Venezuelan National Guard was suppressing protests against the government of Nicolás Maduro, they attacked Moisés Guanchez. Although he was not actively participating in the demonstration, Moisés was arbitrarily detained by the guards and suffered injuries due to the excessive and unjustified use of force. Since the day of the attack, National Guard officials undertook a campaign of harassment against Moisés, eventually forcing him to flee the country.
