Day 1...here we go!

It is 12:00PM on Tuesday, June 1st 2021. An appropriate time and day to start something new, in my opinion. Truth be told this medium isn't exactly "new" for me, as I've tried several times over the years to blog and document my life in some way over the internet. I've always fizzled out though. This is a classic move of mine, I'm quick to start but rare to complete. I make excuses for myself and allow myself to slack off. Who knows? Maybe I'll do the same again. I'm not making any promises. But the honest truth is "creative outlet" has been on my to-do list for way too long now, and I feel like I'm just starting to climb out of the hole that is new mother survival mode, so no time like the present in my opinion.

I'm not going to provide too in-depth a backstory right now as I really just want to create momentum in this "creative outlet," so I'll just share a few things. My name, obviously, is Cara. A name I've never really loved but at this point in life it is what it is and as my mother said, when I was 18, I could've changed it and I never did. I am 31 and 9 months. I will be 32 on September 9th of this year. Now here's a little irony, I always thought my birthdate was so special and unique. 9/9/1989. Then about a year or so ago I learned that it's actually the most "popular" birthday in the United States where I live. Isn't that interesting? I guess the world can always do with more Virgos, so it's fine by me. I am a mother to two girls, Brynne Marie (4 years old) and Bree Hazel (2 and 3/4s?) They are God's greatest gift to me not only for the unconditional love and reward of being a parent but also for how much they challenge me and prove to me time and time again how flawed I am as a human and how much grace I truly need. I am "partners" with Glen. We are planning to get married next October but have been officially together since September 2015. It's been a rollercoaster ride but things seem to genuinely be smoothing out as we both stumble out of the purgatory that is parenting two very young children who are 19 months apart. Right now we only have one pet, a Bassett Hound named Louie, but I am truly a cat person at heart. I lost my first fur baby Marley in October of 2016 and maybe I'll share more about her as time goes on.

So, there's a few things about me. Now I want to quickly cover what sorts of things I hope to write about here. I aim to use this as a platform for sharing my thoughts and musings about life, of course, but I also love to talk about, write about, think about the following: cooking and food culture, financial literacy, parenting, and personal development. (*As a quick caveat, when I say I like to dive into parenting I am in NO way planning to offer advice or tell anyone what I think they should be doing. I think the very best way to get off a parenting high horse is to have more than one child and all I am willing to offer at this point in my life is humor, grace, and observations in that realm. Caveat over.) I am on a journey, of sorts, as I have begun to climb out of the survival mode hole, and I want to use this platform as a place to record my findings. 15 minutes ago I was taking notes on T. Harv Eker's Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, and action item #1 of Wealth File#5 is to "Get in the game. Consider a situation or project you've wanted to start. Whatever you've been waiting for, forget it. Begin now from wherever you are with whatever you've got." As I mentioned before, "creative outlet" has been on my list for WAY too long. What's a better time to begin than 12:00PM on Tuesday, June 1st? Hey thanks for hanging out this long, hopefully I'll be back here tomorrow.
