<p>Mbali Matandela describes herself as a 'spiritual activist', a term that is explored through her work as a gender transformation specialist. This conversation is a true guide into the connectedness that black women have existed within, whatever the context. Mbali takes us through a journey where she explores her beliefs and allowing them to guide her politics, identity, and womanhood. </p> <p>Mbalenhle (Mbali) Matandela is an African feminist activist and writer who is a graduate of the University of Oxford and the University of Cape Town and the Founder of Nkosazana Africa. Mbalenhle has written about Black Consciousness and Black women’s experiences in liberation movements, social movements such as #RhodesMustFall and #FeesMustFall, xenophobic violence and gender-based violence in Southern Africa and has also been the editor of a book called "Challenging Patriarchy: the Role of Patriarchy in the Roll Back of Democracy in the East and Horn of Africa." Mbalenhle is also currently a Research Consultant for the AU Working Group on Gender Equality convened by the Goldsmith University of London on issues that relate to gender, conflict, peace, and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea Areas.</p>
