’s Avonds gaat de telefoon en op je scherm staat het nummer van je eigen bank. Een rustige stem van de fraudeafdeling zegt dat er op dit moment geld van je rekening verdwijnt. Vorig jaar trapten bijna 5.900 mensen hierin. Samen raakten zij bijna 26 miljoen euro kwijt, ruim 3 miljoen meer dan het jaar ervoor, terwijl het aantal slachtoffers juist daalde. Je hoort waarom het nummer op je scherm niets bewijst en waarom de truc niet om onhandigheid draait maar om paniek en autoriteit. En welke ene reflex je hiertegen beschermt: ophangen en zelf terugbellen.

Niet weggooien maar blijven gebruiken: Je oude apparaat is minder kapot dan je denkt
Ergens in een la of een doos ligt vast een oude telefoon of tablet die nog gewoon werkt, ooit aan de kant gelegd voor iets nieuwers. Toch gebruiken we een telefoon gemiddeld maar 2,5 jaar, terwijl vijf tot zeven jaar prima kan. Meestal is het toestel niet stuk, maar is er één onderdeel versleten, en bijvoorbeeld een nieuwe accu kost een fractie van een nieuw apparaat. Je hoort waarom je nu al meer recht op reparatie hebt dan je denkt, welke drie aannames je onnodig een nieuw apparaat laten kopen, en hoe een Repair Café of een reparateur je spullen jaren langer laat meegaan.

Je komt ’s avonds thuis in een donker huis, of je zit net op de snelweg met de vraag of het strijkijzer nog aanstaat. Een huis dat meedenkt, klinkt al snel als een project voor hobbyisten met een schroevendraaier, maar dat is het allang niet meer.
