Hoeveel wordt er nu écht gerecycleerd? Deze podcast leert je iets bij over recyclage en duurzaamheid, een heel maatschappelijk en actueel onderwerp vandaag de dag. De mode-industrie is een gigantische sector die heel slecht is voor het milieu. Daarnaast is het een sector die enorm snel groeit. Hoeveel moet het milieu betalen voor slechts één jeansbroek? Wat is duurzame mode nu eigenlijk? Het aanbod aan gerecycleerde stoffen is heel ruim, maar er wordt nog te weinig gebruik van gemaakt. Dit moeten we in de toekomst verbeteren. Men kan wel heel veel zaken omzetten in een gerecycleerde stof. Hoe verloopt het proces van recyclage dan? Papier en karton bijvoorbeeld zijn niet eindeloos recycleerbaar. Het recyclageproces van plastic telt ongeveer 7 stappen. Plastic verpakkingen veroorzaken heel veel afval. En onze samenleving produceert een hoop plastic, zonder na te denken waar ze er achteraf mee gaan blijven. Daarom is het van groot belang dat we minder gebruik maken van plastic. En als we echt niet anders kunnen, we meer gebruik maken van gerecycleerd plastic. De recyclagecijfers in Vlaanderen worden overschat. Hier zijn verschillende oorzaken voor, onder andere door de aankoop van plastic in buurlanden en producenten die zich niet aanmelden. We gaan uit van het principe van een circulaire economie, maar het verbruik van plastic leunt daar niet bij aan. Het is de bedoeling dat grondstoffen zo lang mogelijk in de economie blijven.
