It’s possible to increase climate resilience
Climate-related natural disasters have tripled in the last 50 years and natural disasters in the Caribbean can represent yearly losses of up to 20% of their GDP when hit by a storm. Investing in adaptation and resilience isn't just smart—it's a powerhouse move. Empirical evidence shows a cost-benefit ratio of 4, even 12 dollars per dollar invested in prevention; a winning strategy for the future.
Barbados, amidst rising sea levels, increased temperatures, and intensified weather events, has taken a proactive and ambitious stance to enhance its climate resilience. This commitment aligns with a human-centered approach, emphasizing sustainable solutions in the face of socio-economic challenges.
Join our insightful discussion featuring Senator Shantal Munro-Knight, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Barbados, and Sarah Bailey, Head of Programme, WFP Caribbean, United Nations World Food Programme. Guided by our host, Jennifer Doherty-Bigara, Sector Senior Specialist at IDB, we explore Barbados' dedicated efforts and commitment to increasing climate resilience. Stay tuned for an engaging dialogue on transformative solutions, showcasing the resolve to address climate challenges and foster a resilient future.

It’s possible to mobilize concessional resources to accelerate climate action
Estimates indicate that damage caused by climate change could cost the region $100 billion annually by 2050. Therefore, climate action is urgent for and from everyone. The LAC region benefits from accessing donor resources to address climate change’s challenges in their economies, finding ways to increase ambition, and searching for solutions to tackle climate change. Through concessional climate finance, Multilateral Development Banks like the IDB provides financing through grants and concessional lending to developing countries.
Join us to learn more about concessional climate finance and about one particular fund that is accelerating how IDB member countries identify, plan, design, and manage climate-resilient and sustainable investments in infrastructure, agriculture, and land-use management: the NDC Pipeline Accelerator Multi-Donor Trust Fund (ACL).
In this new episode of IT’S POSSIBLE/ES POSIBLE, hosted by Isabelle Brally-Cartillier, Operations Lead Specialist, ORP, we discussed how concessional climate finance is accelerating climate-resilient and sustainable investments with three expert guests Gloria Visconti, Sector Lead Specialist, IDB, Leena Klossner, Deputy Managing Director, NDF, and Marcelino Madrigal, Energy Division Chief, IDB

It is possible to protect biodiversity and obtain social and economic benefits.
Latin America and the Caribbean are home to the most significant species and ecosystem diversity on the planet: more than 40% of the world's biodiversity, including almost a third of the planet's freshwater and nearly half of its tropical forests. The region is home to six of the world's most biodiverse countries (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela) and stores approximately 104 gigatons of carbon, with the Amazon region storing around 10% of global carbon. However, human activities, deforestation and the emission of products and chemicals that damage nature, increase the loss of resources and affect almost 40% of the world's population. But there are positive mechanisms and actions for nature that would help us to combat climate change and biodiversity loss.
Today in this new episode of IT’S POSSIBLE we'll discuss why and how investing in nature pays off. We will hear firsthand how this agenda is advancing in the region with three expert guests Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, CEO of the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), Laura Ortiz Montemayor, Chief Purpose Officer of SVX Mexico, and Mariana Bellot, Senior Technical Advisor at The Biodiversity Finance Initiative, BIOFIN.
