SCHOPENHAUER E A VIDA EM RELAÇÃO À MORTE
Arthur Schopenhauer nasceu em Danzig (atual Gdansk, Polônia), em 22 de fevereiro de 1788. Filho de ricos comerciantes prussianos, foi educado para seguir a profissão do pai e, aos 12 anos de idade, empreendeu uma série de viagens pela Europa. A morte de seu pai permitiu-lhe abandonar a carreira comercial e voltar-se para o estudo universitário. Em 1813, doutorou-se pela Universidade de Berlim com a tese Sobre a Quádrupla Raiz do Princípio de Razão Suficiente. Em 1818 publica sua principal obra, O Mundo como Vontade e Representação. A partir de 1831, estabelece-se em Frankfurt, onde leva uma vida solitária. Ao longo da vida, ele teve problemas com a família, falta de reconhecimento da universidade (seu curso na Universidade de Berlim contou com apenas quatro ouvintes), doenças e dificuldades econômicas. Morre em 21 de setembro de 1860, vítima de ataque cardíaco, aos 72 anos. FONTE: GUIA DO ESTUDANTE
