Podcast Overview

The Elements of Lifestyle is a story on living a joyous life by: - applying intentional life design - following the path of kaizen — small, incremental improvements - and finding your enough. Many popular turnaround stories start with hitting bottom — addiction, heart attack, a health scare, loss of something. But The Elements of Lifestyle is a story of taking control without — or before — a complete derailment. It’s a story of personal compound interest, about small things adding up.

Find the original blog post here: Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl

Come for the story, walk away with the meaning of life

Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning is one of those cult books that keep getting quoted once a person starts looking for deeper answers to their existence.

I've been putting away reading this work for a while. It was one of those big things you respect too much to just dare to dive right in. And it is a book which I regarded as the one deserving to be read in the paper form, not as an ebook. As we entered the second year of this global pandemic in April 2021, it was time to dive into it.

Man's Search for Meaning is a book in two parts — the first part ends at exactly the 100th page and is Viktor Frankl's recollection of his time in the Nazi concentration camps.

The Elements of Lifestyle: Fat, Forty, and Fired.

Watch TED Talks; they just might save your life.

This TED Talk and the subsequent book most probably saved my life. I don’t even want to think about what would have happened if I hadn’t seen the speech. Heart attack at minimum, maybe a broken home, who knows, but I wouldn’t have made it safely to my forties.

The whole story behind The Elements of Lifestyle is about accepting responsibility, taking action, and not waiting for a life disaster. There are too many stories about folks who change their lifestyle following a heart attack, after a divorce, or after getting fired. My idea was to do my best to skip the calamity by changing before the tragedy would strike.
