Stop the Power Grab: Dr. Howard Kessler of PSR Florida Speaks Out

Today we talked with Dr. Howard Kessler, MD, President of Physicians for Social Responsibility Florida. In this episode of FL People Talk, Dr. Kessler discusses the negative consequences of stopping clean energy initiatives. In particular Dr. Kessler discusses why Physicians for Social Responsibility Florida has asked its citizen advocates to get speak out against Florida preemption legislation, SB 1128/HB 919, that would prevent local municipalities from pursuing 100% clean energy initiatives and remove 11 already existing resolutions around the state.

The Moral State of the State: Rev. Dr. Russell L. Meyer on the First Week of Florida's Legislative Session

In this, Florida Policy Action Network's first podcast, we hear from Rev. Dr. Russell L. Meyer, Executive Director of the Florida Council of Churches. In this interview, which took place on March 2, 2021 - the first day of Florida's Legislative Session - Rev. Dr. Meyer talks about what is missing in the work being done by the Florida Legislature, what is all too present, and what we can do to help. Here, Rev. Dr. Meyer explains that the Christian understanding of the Golden Rule and Aristotle's Golden Mean are missing in the corporate backed priorities this session and that the daemons of greed and power are all too present.

Listen as Rev. Dr. Meyer explains how the faith-based, or spiritual, call to action this legislative session is an imperative for helping the most marginalized and oppressed in Florida. Here how he uses his own Christian faith to explain why legislators and community members need to rearrange their thinking and focus on answering the problems of poverty, education, unemployment, and despair. Listen to his call to stop the daemons that shut down plurality and impose silence on those who speak out against tyranny. Be inspired by his passion for public education and learn why legislative priorities focused on "school choice" corrupt public education and leave Florida's most vulnerable communities without education funding and without an accountability process.

To learn more about Reverend Dr. Russell L Meyer, his work, and the work of the Florida Council of Churches, please visit the Florida Council of Churches website LINKED HERE.
