کمتر کشوری در آسیا توانسته مانند ژاپن، تعاملی دو سویه با فرهنگ و هنر مدرن در قرن نوزدهم برقرار کند. گستردگی فن آوری در ژاپن باعث شده بسیاری از ما وقتی در مورد ابزار عکاسی فکر می کنیم اولین برندهایی که به ذهن مان می رسد برندهای ژاپنی باشد. ژاپنی ها به عکس "شاشین" می گویند.
