Who tf are we?
Welcome to the “From the Ground with love” podcast brought to you by team jarrein. I'm Afreen and I’m an ex-medical student and the creative director and founder of jarrein. In the future you will definitely get to know us as individuals. The word Jarrein translates to "roots" in Urdu. When we started jarren we wanted people to recognize “jarron se hi kuch khoobsurat Nikhal ta hey” right. So basically translates to the fact that beautiful things come from our roots. Our brand is all about taking that deep breath and stepping into that new realm or chapter in your life while appreciating where you came from. As beautiful as cultural roots are we wanted to displace that love towards a more under appreciated subject. The subject of our anatomical and biological roots. When we talk about anatomy that includes gross anatomy, histology and embryology all explored in the most abstract of ways. So much of the time we see such subjects through a cynical lens but we wanted to show such aspects through its rightfully beautiful lens. The human body is extraordinary... it’s got layers, multiple systems, varied sections with different goals and yet it all works together to reach this common point of equilibrium that man needs to survive. We live in a world where we don’t appreciate the beauty of our bodies. The beauty of our organs, tissues, genes, and holistically what our biological roots have given us. So that’s when i conceived جڑیں. I wanted to fuse anatomical and histological art into eastern and western wear. I want people to feel comfort in a wrap lunghi skirt which mimics the striations or our muscles, a halter neck pashmina kurta with the appearance of different quantities of melanin, a kaftan with patterns of the histological layers of skin mimicking histology dyes with water colors... I wanted people to find beauty in showing off the curves of a hand painted spine, the details of one's actual heart , the pathways of one's blood vessels, etc. I want to change the perception of the so-called “freaky” parts of our bodies. Through this conception I found a team from my time in medical school who wanted to be apart of this brand and vision. We were all messing around on a video call one night designing school sweatshirts and throughout the process I finally let out the idea of jarrein. The support and faith they had in my idea was crazy. From there on Jarrein was born. Together with their generous advice my fashion designs and mood boards were brought to life by our embroiderers and tailor. Who we want you all to meet very soon. "
