Ho problemi col loro fan club. Mi sta proprio sul cazzo l'idea che "non si può dire niente", nel senso che ogni volta che parli male di un'azienda o di un giochino sei un hater e quando ne parli invece invece sei un venduto, un fanboy, "da te non me lo aspettavo". È così che muore il pensiero critico, sotto scroscianti ticchettii sulle tastiere meccaniche da cui i gamer scrivono i loro commentini di merda sotto questo o quell'altro contenuto. Io mi sono cacato il cazzo. Non perché la cosa mi impedisca di fare il mio lavoro – non è un lavoro e comunque se mi preoccupassi di cosa pensa la gente non farei Gameromancer. Mi sono cacato il cazzo perché vivo di pensiero critico. E vedere il dialogo attorno ai giochini ridotto a questa merda mi fa venire voglia di svegliarmi vestito elegante.

È inutile raccontarsela, indorare la pillola, pensare che console "portatili" siano portatili solo perché non sono attaccate alla TV. Se non sta dentro una tasca, "portatile" diventa solo un'etichetta. Il gaming portatile, quello nato con Game Boy, è morto, ucciso dagli smartphone e dalla possibilità tecnologica di giocare "quasi come in salotto" anche in mobilità, rendendo le console dedicate un retaggio del passato, anacronistiche e insulse a livello di business. Questo però, per quanto inevitabile nell'ottica dell'evoluzione del medium, a noi giocatori, ha tolto un'opzione, un'esperienza che aveva caratterische ben precise. Il game design dei videogiochi portatili era costruito su caratteristiche e form factor della macchina e questo dava vita a gameplay unici, due mondi diversi rispetto alla fruizione "da divano". I due schermi, il touch screen e il microfono di Nintendo DS danno vita ancora oggi ad esperienze uniche, freschissime, cristallizzate nel tempo, l'epoca sperimentale di Japan Studios su PSP ha donato al mondo cult come LocoRoco e Patapon, fino all'effetto stereoscopico di 3DS, per carità, più gimmick che sostanza, ma volete mettere? Prima ancora, in epoca Game Boy, avere una portatile significava poter godere di pillole di gameplay al bisogno, da Tetris, clamoroso pure oggi, fino alle versioni miniaturizzate di serie come Zelda, Mario fino a Final Fantasy. Le idee sopravvivono al progresso tecnologico ed è per questo che oggi, riscoprire le portatili, non è nostalgia ma la necessità di (ri)trovare uno spazio esterno alle soluzioni, sempre più uguali a loro stesse, che il mercato propone, riappropriandoci di momenti, abitudini, stili di gioco che i produttori hanno deciso che non sarebbero più dovuti essere parte della nostra vita di giocatori.
