Captain America Liberty’s Torch Review: A Darker Marvel Audiobook Than Expected
In this episode of the Gman Reviews Podcast, I review Captain America: Liberty’s Torch, a Marvel audiobook that was not quite what I expected.
Going in, I thought this would be a more traditional Captain America action story with Steve Rogers and Falcon taking on villains in a straightforward superhero adventure. Instead, Liberty’s Torch is much more of a political thriller about extremism, militia movements, corrupted patriotism, racism, and what Captain America is supposed to represent.
I talk about the Liberty’s Torch militia, Falcon’s role in the story, the trial element, the book’s more nuanced view of militias through the character Barry, and why I think the story both succeeds and falls short in how it handles Captain America’s moral voice.
I also get into one of my bigger criticisms: the book has a strong setup for a classic Captain America speech about pain, responsibility, and hatred, but I do not think it fully delivers that moment.
If you are interested in a darker, more political Captain America story, this audiobook may be worth checking out — but if you mainly want nonstop superhero action, this one may surprise you.

Felicity from Evil West When Trauma Becomes Tyranny
Felicity from Evil West is more than just a vampire villain.
In this Gman Reviews podcast episode, we look at Felicity D’Abano, her backstory, her hatred of humanity, her connection to the vampire aristocracy, and the philosophy behind her role in Evil West.
Evil West is a dark fantasy action game set in a supernatural version of the American frontier, where Jesse Rentier and the Rentier Institute fight vampires, monsters, and other horrors hiding in the shadows.
But Felicity is not interesting simply because she is powerful or monstrous. She is interesting because her worldview is built around pain, domination, survival, and the belief that mercy is weakness.
This episode asks whether Felicity is just another evil vampire boss, or whether she represents something deeper: what happens when trauma becomes ideology, and suffering becomes an excuse for tyranny.
Topics covered:- What Evil West is about- Who Felicity D’Abano is- Felicity’s hatred of humanity- Vampire aristocracy and predatory power- Felicity vs Jesse Rentier- Trauma, revenge, and villain philosophy- Why Felicity’s final transformation matters- The moral lesson behind Evil West’s vampire conflict
Spoiler warning for Evil West, especially Felicity’s role in the story and late-game events.

Is Mouse P.I. For Hire a Noir Game or Just a Shooter in a Trench Coat?
Mouse P.I. For Hire and the Soul of Noir
Is Mouse P.I. For Hire a true noir game — or just a shooter in a trench coat?
In this episode, we break down whether Mouse P.I. For Hire earns its noir identity or hides behind the aesthetic. We get into the four pillars that define this game — boomer-shooter combat, platforming, noir storytelling, and detective mechanics — and ask the question most reviews skip: does the detective part actually matter, or does the shooter always win?
What we cover: • Why your weapon choice changes the entire difficulty curve • The detective mechanics — promising on paper, shallow in practice • Platforming that works but isn't the reason you're here • Level lockouts and the baffling absence of New Game Plus • The rubber-hose art style — why it's not a gimmick and actually makes the noir work • What noir actually means (spoiler: it's not just fedoras and jazz) • Jack Pepper as a classic compromised noir hero — and why that matters • The BMP, corruption, and why the 1930s setting does real thematic work • The "is it woke?" conversation — fair criticism vs. criticizing the game for what it never promised to be • Why Mouse P.I. has more in common with Baldur's Gate 3 than you'd think • The flaws that are real and the flaws that are noise
This one's for anyone who's played Mouse P.I. and felt the tension between what it is and what it could have been — or for anyone still deciding if it's worth picking up.
