This is the Grandfather's Guide to Artificial Intelligence<br /><br />Welcome and to get things started off slow, since I move really slow. I am going to start with an easy explanation of AI. <br />Imagine you have a grandchild who is very good at playing chess. You want to teach your grandchild how to play even better, so you give them a book about chess strategy.<br />Your grandchild reads the book and learns all about different chess openings, middlegame tactics, and endgame strategies. After a while, your grandchild becomes a very good chess player, even better than you!<br />AI works in a similar way. AI systems are given a lot of information and examples, and they learn from that information. For example, an AI system that is designed to recognize faces might be given millions of pictures of faces. The AI system would learn to identify different features of faces, such as eyes, noses, and mouths. After the AI system is trained, it can be used to identify faces in new pictures.<br />AI is used in many different ways today. For example, AI is used to:<br />Power search engines and social media platforms<br />Drive self-driving cars<br />Diagnose diseases<br />Recommend products to customers<br />Write news articles and generate creative content<br />AI is a powerful technology that has the potential to improve our lives in many ways. However, it is important to use AI responsibly and ethically. We need to make sure that AI systems are used for good and not for harm.<br />Here is an analogy that might help your grandmother to understand AI:<br />Imagine that your grandmother is a very good cook. She has been cooking for many years and knows all sorts of recipes.<br />One day, your grandmother decides to teach you how to cook. She shows you how to chop vegetables, measure ingredients, and follow recipes. After a while, you become a pretty good cook yourself.<br />You can think of AI as a kind of digital cookbook. AI systems are given a lot of recipes (data) and learn from those recipes.
