Menstruation affects many in the LGBTIQA+ community, including transgender men and non-binary individuals, who face unique challenges. Menstruation can worsen gender dysphoria and mental health issues, as it reminds them of a body part that doesn\'t match their gender identity. They also struggle with accessing menstrual products and healthcare because these are often geared towards cisgender women. Social stigma and isolation make it hard for them to talk about their experiences or seek help. To support them better, we need inclusive education, awareness campaigns, healthcare training, gender-neutral products, and community support. Recognizing and addressing their needs is crucial for a more inclusive society.

Menstrual discrimination affects millions of women and girls through social stigma, economic barriers, inadequate facilities, and poor education. Men can help fight this issue by learning about menstruation, supporting policies for better access to menstrual products, and creating supportive environments at work and school. By challenging negative language and behaviors and joining community efforts, men can help normalize menstruation and reduce stigma. Therefore, in this episode of Gulabi Sambad, we have addressed the importance of men's engagement in breaking barriers related to menstruation. We have two guests, a father-daughter duo, Mansuram Tharu, a 'Buwa Samuha' member supported by Plan International Nepal, and his daughter Namrata Tharu.

Menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) is crucial but often overlooked during emergencies like natural disasters and humanitarian crises. Menstruating individuals struggle with accessing menstrual products, clean water, and adequate sanitation facilities, while also facing cultural stigma and limited education. Effective MHH practices in emergencies include integrating it into planning, providing menstrual products, improving WASH facilities, and conducting educational campaigns to reduce stigma. Therefore, this episode of Gulabi Sambad highlights particular challenges that may arise if menstruation begins during emergencies or crises. Joining the conversation, we have Nirajan Khadka, SRHR–Technical Advisor, and Shreejana Bajracharya, Campaign Specialist and SRHR Expert at Plan International Nepal, an organization championing child rights and gender equality.
