잊기좋은 이름 - 김애란 (도서출판 열림원) #1 나를 키운 팔할은 어릴 땐 꿈이 덤프트럭 기사였고, 아는 것 적고 배운 것 없지만 '그게 다 식구니까 그렇지'라는 말로부터 멀리 달아나셨던 분, 그렇지만 아주 멀리가지는 못하신 분. 내겐 한없이 다정하고 떄로 타인에게 무례한, 복잡하고 결함많고 씩씩한 여성. 그리고 그녀가 삶을 자기것으로 가꾸는 사이 자연스레 그걸 내가 목격하게끔 만들어준 칼국수집 '맛나당'이 나를 키웠다, 내게 스몄다. #2 나의 기원, 그의 연애 아마 그즈음이었으리라. 아버지가 살면서 가장 행복해한 순간은. 자세히는 모르지만 그 시절 부모님의 사진을 보면 느낄 수 있다. 30년전 아버지는 진심으로 자기 인생을 좋아하는 사람의 표정을 짓고 있다. 그러니 회사 점심시간에 밥도 거르고 신혼방으로 엄마 얼굴을 보러 갔을거다. 가슴팍에 호빵을 넣고, 그게 식을까 봐 수도국산 꼭대기까지 종종거리며 달려갔을거다. 아버지는 호빵에는 손도 안대고 아내가 먹는 모습만 쳐다봤다. 그러곤 회사로 돌아가며 방문 앞에서 한 번, 부엌문 나서며 한 번, 대문 나가며 한 번, 이렇게 세 번 몸을 돌려 엄마를 바라봤단다.

동백꽃은 해안선을 가득 메우고도 군집으로서의 현란한 힘을 이루지 않는다. 동백은 한 송이의 개별자로서 제각기 피어나고, 제각기 떨어진다. 동백은 떨어져 죽을 때 주접스런 꼴을 보이지 않는다. 절정에 도달한 그 꽃은, 마치 백제가 무너지듯이, 절정에서 문득 추락해버린다. '눈물처럼 후드득' 떨어져버린다.
