Een vlotte circulatie
<p>De architecten vertellen dat ze met verschillende experten hebben samengewerkt. Er zijn heel veel mensen betrokken en dat maakt het proces moeilijk, maar wel erg boeiend. Het ontwerpteam bestudeerde de verschillende noden en vragen, wat het eindresultaat ten goede komt. De circulatie binnen in het gebouw wordt voor iedereen vlotter. En ook de binnentuin krijgt een doorsteek zodat die echt deel kan uitmaken van de stad. Het is vandaag een verborgen parel die we in de toekomst zichtbaar willen maken.</p> <p> </p>

De antichambre
<p>Het stadhuis krijgt een nieuwe ingang in het Corps de Garde, vlak naast het iconische voorhuis. Daardoor wordt het gebouw voor iedereen toegankelijk en krijgt het een duidelijk adres op de Grote Markt. Bovenop het Corps de Garde komt een nieuw, achthoekig volume. De architecten leggen uit hoe het ontwerp mooi integreert in de omgeving. En waarom die extra ruimte ervoor zorgt dat erfgoed op andere plekken kan bewaard en hersteld worden. </p> <p> </p>

Een intense ontwerpwedstrijd
<p>De architecten blikken terug op een intense ontwerpwedstrijd. Ze leerden het gebouw en de Grote Markt kennen, en dat niets is wat het lijkt. Een politiek monument omvormen naar een publiek gebouw is een hele opgave. Vooral omdat de architecten niet aan het iconische voorhuis en andere waardevolle ruimtes willen raken.</p> <p> </p>
