<p>Durante a Idade Média, a Igreja católica foi a principal instituição detentora do domínio político. Ela tinha em suas mãos o poder de categorizar as atitudes humanas entre pecados e bem aventuranças. Na lista de transgressões estava, para o homem medieval, o mais abominável dos pecados: a &nbsp;&nbsp;usura. A natureza da condenação da usura consistia na ideia de que o tempo pertencia tão somente a Deus, o que tornava a apropriação do tempo para &nbsp;ganhar dinheiro (cobrança de juros) um grave pecado. Afinal, o ladrão comum rouba bens materiais alheios e não algo especificamente divino.</p> <p>Para Jacques Le Goff, o inferno foi o maestro do imaginário medieval. Entretanto, “O medo dos usurários à condenação fez tornar insuportável a &nbsp;&nbsp;oposição simplista entre o paraíso e o inferno” (LE GOFF, 2004). É nesse contexto em que surge um terceiro lugar, um novo espaço entre o céu e o &nbsp;&nbsp;tártaro: o purgatório.&nbsp;</p> <p>No episódio de hoje debateremos sobre os impactos deste "novo lugar" na mentalidade medieval e como ele é representado na obra de um dos mais conhecidos medievalistas da história.&nbsp;</p> <p><br></p>
