Aldwyn Roberts, widely known as Lord Kitchener or Kitch, was a legendary Trinidadian calypsonian who left an indelible mark on Caribbean music and British culture. Born in Arima in 1923, he developed his musical talents early in life before rising to fame by winning multiple calypso competitions and relocating to Port of Spain. His iconic journey to the United Kingdom aboard the Empire Windrush in 1948 cemented his legacy, famously introducing British audiences to his optimistic music through performances like "London is the Place for Me."Throughout his career, Kitch became a central figure in the popularity of calypso across London, establishing successful residencies and even opening a nightclub in Manchester before eventually returning to Trinidad in 1962. Back in his homeland, he dominated the annual Trinidad Carnival, winning numerous road march titles and nurturing future musical stars by running his own calypso tent for thirty years. He later successfully embraced the soca genre, releasing major hits such as "Sugar Bum Bum" in 1978 and continuing to create celebrated music until his death in 2000.
