Where is the justice?
<p>In December 2020, deputies in the Dane County Jail broke Jimmie Joshua’s hip and left him in an isolation cell without medical care for 15 hours. The assault sparked protests and support from the community. </p><br><p>In the first episode of Inhumane Dane, we hear from Jimmie and his sister Tiona Barker about their experience of Jimmie's incarceration and assault. Jimmie also speaks about Dane County's ongoing push to build a new jail. The Dane County Board of Supervisors recently approved an additional $10 million in borrowing to build a new jail, bringing the total anticipated cost to $179 million. We'll look more closely at those plans in the next episodes.</p><br><p>To contribute to a GoFundMe for Jimmie Joshua's legal and medical bills and to stay up to date on the Dane County jail, visit <a href="https://linktr.ee/dsamadison" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://linktr.ee/dsamadison</a>.</p><br><p>Special thanks to our guests:</p><p>Jimmie Joshua</p><p>Tiona Barker</p><p>Paul Kinne</p><br><p>Learn more:</p><p><a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/together-we-can-make-a-difference-for-jimmie-j" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">GoFundMe for Jimmie Joshua</a></p><p><a href="https://derailthejail.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Derail the Jail</a></p><p><a href="https://madison365.com/activists-call-for-release-of-jimmie-joshua/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Activists call for release of Jimmie Joshua (Madison365, May 24, 2021)</a></p><p><a href="https://madison365.com/former-dane-county-jail-resident-sues-county-over-broken-hip-neglect/?fbclid=IwAR3YHl61VhUqUVqtkmPsRpluLOhegSuCD8yf0kp52wZYstn1Grlw8hfVhTY" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Former Dane County Jail resident sues county over broken hip, neglect</a> (Madison365, January 28, 2022)</p><p><a href="https://madison365.com/county-board-approves-additional-jail-funding/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">County Board approves additional jail funding (Madison365, April 20, 2023) </a></p><p><a href="https://tonemadison.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Tone Madison</a></p><p><a href="https://madison-dsa.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Madison Area DSA</a></p><br><p><a href="https://tonemadison.com/inhumane-dane/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Inhumane Dane</a> is supported by Tone Madison and Madison Area Democratic Socialists of America.
