Jefferson County Public Schools Celebrate Cop Killer’s Memoir
<p>For Women’s History Month in March of 2021, Jefferson County Public Schools listed Assata Shakur’s memoir as one of 11 books to be celebrated and read. Shakur was involved in the murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster in 1973, and is currently on the F.B.I.’s Most Wanted List. Jefferson County Public Schools also held a training in August of 2020 titled “You Are Going to Have To Talk About Race,” where whites and blacks were categorized as “oppressors” and “oppressed,” and whites were showed slides that stated “Whitesplaining is bad and racist,” and “being the recipient of an oppressive system is not grounds for quitting because your feelings got hurt,” among other racially polarizing content.</p> <p>This episode is also available as a blog post: http://welcomingwhiteness.org/2021/05/07/jefferson-county-public-schools-celebrate-cop-killers-memoir/</p>
