Episode One: #MeToo, Consent, and Intimacy in Theatre

<p>In our first episode, we discuss the #MeToo movement in theatre; going through a quick history of the movement, discussing intimacy direction both in stage and in television, how the movement expresses itself on stage, how content warnings allow audiences to consent to what they view, and how our dream productions would tackle these themes. We also discuss our own histories with the movement in our theatrical practice, ranging from experiences with intimacy choreographers to questionable experiences in our pasts. Today, we are recording from the land of Tkaronto, which is traditionally the land of the Heuron-Wendat, the Seneca and the Missisaugas of the Credit River. Tkaronto operates in the Dish with One Spoon territory, a treaty made between the Anishinaabe, Missisaugas and Haudenosuanne communities to peacefully share the land.</strong></p> <p><strong>As we continue to center consent in this discussion, we believe that it is vital to hold space for and listen to Indigenous stories. Land acknowledgements are only the first step of the ongoing work and learning we must each do to decolonize ourselves, our learning spaces, and the physical spaces we each inhabit.</strong></p>
