Some of you may have already been there.</p><p>As visitors may know, there are many words in Japan that sound like English but are not. It’s great to have you tuning in!It’s the 224th time.</p><p>キャプションには今回も英語を載せているので、日本語が聞き取れなかったりしたらたらぜひ参考にしてください!</p><p><br></p><p>今回は、ことわざに関するクイズです。</p><p>次の文章はことわざです。空欄に当てはまる動物を選んでください。</p><p><br></p><p>[___]も歩けば棒に当たる。</p><p><br></p><p>①猫</p><p>②犬</p><p>③うさぎ</p><p><br></p><p>答えは、②犬です。</p><p><br></p><p>「犬も歩けば棒に当たる」は二つの意味があります。</p><p>一つは、「何か物事を始めたからこそ、思わぬ幸運に出会えた」の意味。もう一つは、「何か物事を始めると、何かと災難にあったりする」の意味。</p><p>文脈によって判断するしかないことわざなのでなかなか難しいですが、見つけたらどちらの意味かな?と考えてみてください。</p><p><br></p><p>日本のことわざには、動物がたくさん登場します。</p><p>例えば</p><p>・豚に真珠</p><p>・猫の手も借りたい</p><p>・犬猿の仲</p><p>・馬の耳に念仏</p><p>・猿も木から落ちる</p><p>・二兎を追うものは一兎も得ず</p><p>などなど。</p><p>それぞれの意味はぜひ、検索して調べてみてください。</p><p><br></p><p>Thanks for joining me today.</p><p>Incidentally, this podcast will be updated every two weeks from this year, as I need to get on with my own learning.</p><p>So the next one will be on 5th April.</p><p><br></p><p>Until then, おつかれさまでした! Choose the animal that fits the blank.</p><p><br></p><p>①ねこ</p><p>②いぬ</p><p>③うさぎ</p><p><br></p><p>The answer is Two!</p><p>‘いぬもあるけば ぼうにあたる’ has two meanings.</p><p>One means ‘because I started something, I met with unexpected good luck’. The other meaning is that ‘because I started something, I met with some misfortune’.</p><p>Many animals appear in Japanese proverbs.</p><p>Please search for the meaning of each of these.</p>
