<p>Erasmo da Rotterdam, in latino Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus (Rotterdam, 27 ottobre 1467 – Basilea, 12 luglio 1536), è stato un teologo, umanista, filosofo e saggista olandese. È considerato il maggiore esponente del movimento dell'Umanesimo cristiano. L'Elogio della Follia (titolo originale in latino: Moriae encomium) è un saggio scritto in latino da Erasmo da Rotterdam nel 1509 e pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1511. L'opera fu redatta e completata in prima stesura nel giro di una settimana, mentre Erasmo soggiornava con Tommaso Moro nella residenza di quest'ultimo a Bucklersbury. He is considered the leading exponent of the Christian Humanism movement. The Praise of Madness (original title in Latin: Moriae encomium) is an essay written in Latin by Erasmus of Rotterdam in 1509 and published for the first time in 1511. The work was written and completed in the first draft within a week , while Erasmus was staying with Thomas More in the latter's residence at Bucklersbury. The Praise of Madness is considered to be one of the most influential literary works of modern Western civilization.
