Bill and Katherine discuss gender bias in healthcare, the recovery journey faced by <a href="https://rfinjurylaw.com/practice-areas/traumatic-brain-injury/">traumatic brain injury</a> survivors, and why women seem to have a longer pathway to care after experiencing a concussion.<br /> Katherine began researching concussions in 2008 when her son suffered a series of concussions that forced him to lose a year of school. Unsatisfied with the care her son was receiving, Katherine reached out to experts and attended medical conferences as a way to learn more about brain injuries. She quickly became known as a valued resource for families searching for guidance on how to help their children heal from a concussion. Over the years, Katherine noticed a concerning pattern: young girls weren&#8217;t healing as fast as young boys.<br /> In 2013, Katherine used her newfound knowledge of concussions and background in social work to found PINK Concussions, a non-profit dedicated to female brain injury recovery. Through PINK Concussions, Katherine has fostered a community that supports women living with brain injuries&#8211;including concussions from sports, violence, accidents, and military service.
