Fundamental Series - Display Size Matters
In this episode of the Meeting Room Doctor podcast, we dive deep into the essential considerations for selecting the right display screen for meeting rooms. Host The Meeting Room Doctor explains why simply purchasing a large television isn't the best solution for commercial environments. Instead, he highlights the advantages of large format displays, which are specifically designed for extended use in professional settings. Listeners will learn about the importance of screen size, resolution, aspect ratio, and brightness, as well as the various display formats available, including single, dual, and ultra-wide screens. The episode also covers the growing trend of interactivity in displays, such as touchscreen capabilities and digital signage features. Additionally, the podcast discusses the decline of projectors in favor of large format displays and LED video walls, particularly in larger spaces. The Meeting Room Doctor emphasizes the significance of proper sizing and environmental considerations to ensure optimal viewing experiences. Key Quotes "Televisions are domestic products and they're designed to be used around four hours every day... not video conferencing or presentations." "Size does matter. Too small and people won't see the contents at the back of the room. Too big, it will be overpowering, which will be tiring for the users." "The DISCAS formula... gives us an optimal size so that all users can see clearly and most optimally." "Adding a touchscreen capability to display gives a whole new level of interactivity... the ability to annotate on the screen and share that into a meeting." "Every meeting room deserves to be doctor approved." Fundamentals Series - Elevate Your Elevations
In this podcast episode, Alex Smith, The Meeting Room Doctor, emphasises the critical importance of elevation drawings in the installation of audio-visual (AV) systems. The episode begins by explaining what elevation drawings are and how they serve as a communication tool for planning the installation of technology, including hardware locations, fixing points, and requirements from other trades like power and data cabling. Alex walks the audience through a typical elevation, highlighting key components such as wall-mounted displays, video bars, and cable routes for touch panels and computer modules. The discussion includes the necessity of wall reinforcements to support heavy AV equipment, the establishment of cable routes during the construction phase, and the coordination of power and data connections to ensure optimal functionality. Throughout the episode, the Alex breaks down various elements of the elevation drawings, including wall reinforcement, AV cableways, and the positioning of power and data outlets. The importance of planning for cable access and the need for a collaborative approach among clients, designers, construction teams, and AV integrators is also emphasized. The episode concludes by reiterating the significance of elevation drawings in avoiding additional costs, ensuring site efficiency, and maintaining the overall aesthetic and functionality of the AV installation. The host encourages listeners to consider these factors early in the planning process to achieve a successful AV system installation. Key Takeaways "Elevation drawings are the most important part of your AV system installation. Without considering these in advance, you risk additional cost, poor functionality, and frankly, an awful look." "Good coordination makes it possible to achieve good functionality with equipment perfectly placed and cables hidden out of sight." "Displays can be 20 kilos up to almost 100 kilos in weight, and other equipment may be 10 kilos or so. In most cases, we need to ask the construction teams to provide wall reinforcements." "By doing this exercise early, it also forces us to consider cable lengths just to check that they're within the tolerances of the dedicated cables." "Ultimately, the client and the designers want the look and feel, the functionality. The construction teams want to know what they're building, where and when, and the AV integrators want a good base to install their equipment."
