Welcome to Mic On, Mask Off! The podcast where nothing’s off the table, and everything’s up for discussion. I’m Patricia, your host and fellow curious mind, diving into conversations that go deep, get real, and sometimes push the edge. From culture to controversy, the weird, the wise, and the wildly unexpected; if it’s worth talking about, we’re going there. No filters. No fear. Just talk. Let’s get into it.”
Here’s the truth: oppression isn’t always someone screaming in your face with a slur. Nah. Most of the time, it’s quiet. It’s in the structures, the rules, the policies — the air we breathe. Think about it like carbon monoxide. You don’t see it, you don’t smell it, but it’s choking you out every damn day.

The Myth of the Critical Race Theory: Who’s really afraid of the truth?
Critical Race Theory (CRT) was never part of your third grader’s homework.
It wasn’t tucked between multiplication tables and vocabulary quizzes.
No teacher in middle school stood up and said, “Okay kids, today we’re analyzing institutional racism through post-structuralist legal critique.” It did not happen!

Whitewashing Black History: Whose story are we really telling?
Let’s keep it real teaching the full story of America isn’t “radical,” it’s responsible. But too often, teachers get left hanging when it comes to the uncomfortable parts: slavery, systemic racism, redlining, police brutality. They’re expected to tell the truth, but without the resources, backing, or protection from backlash. That’s like asking someone to fight a fire with a paper cup.

You are benefiting from Black Brilliance
History isn’t just about what happened, it’s about what’s remembered. Too often, Black history gets buried under silence, while white history gets polished, archived, and displayed like fine china. One story gets footnotes, the other gets headlines. It’s not that Black contributions didn’t shape the foundation of this country, they did but the telling of history has always been selective. The wit in the tragedy is this: erasure takes work. Someone had to actively edit, omit, and reframe the narrative. And yet, truth has a way of surfacing, because buried history isn’t dead it’s just waiting to be resurrected.

The Mother Wound
When you carry the mother wound, it often shows up as a shaky sense of worth. You hustle for love like it’s something you have to earn, not something you inherently deserve. You tiptoe around relationships, terrified of being “too much,” and when you finally dare to set boundaries, guilt moves in like an uninvited guest.

Unseen Pain: Men in the Shadows of Abuse
It’s almost always men who are the abusers in headlines, but women can be abusive too. Let’s be real… society has a blind spot when it comes to men being abused. Walking away permanently is about recognizing when fixing it would take more than love, patience, and a couples’ retreat in the mountains. Leaving for good isn’t weakness it’s self-preservation.

We are more alike than different
None of us asked to be born. We all bleed the same blood, last I checked, red! Despite all that variation, all that inherited context, we’re all expected to function inside the same world. We are taught Racism, Misogyny, Hatred & Division. We’re not meant to stay who we were. We’re meant to evolve.

You break it, you ghost: The disrespect behind borrowing without accountability
He borrowed my speaker for a kickback, gave it back like it had survived war. And I still got hit with a ‘Damn, it’s not that serious. They benefit from your softness but they don’t honor it. And in doing so, they teach you that being open-hearted comes at a cost. Sometimes being the bigger person just means being the clearer person.

Politicians want power without accountability
They make a mess, blame the media, deflect to the past, then throw a parade with tax dollars. Some leaders are acting like your toxic ex. They are manipulative, finger point, & want applause. Hold them accountable! Ask the hard questions.

Why Do Politicians lie instead of lead?
Why do they lie? Constant misinformation breeds fear. No healthcare, no justice, & no accountability. Some politicians are governing in costumes. They were elected to serve and lead.
