Hugo Hamid Marcus und die Einheit in der Vielfalt
<p>„Der Islam ist Teil der deutschen Kulturgeschichte.“ Das ist die Erkenntnis des Philosophen Hugo Hamid Markus, nachdem er die abendländische Philosophie Spinozas, Lessings, Nietzsches und vor allem Goethe und den Islam studiert hatte. Für ihn, der aus einer deutsch-jüdischen Familie stammt, ist der Islam „die Reformation des Christentums“, und zwar tausend Jahre vor dem Protestantismus. Im kultur- und religionsoffenen Berlin, gehört Hugo Hamid Markus nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg zu einem Kreis deutscher Muslime, die an der neu erbauten Moschee in Berlin-Wilmersdorf aktiv sind. Sie veranstalten regelmäßig “islamische Abende”, an denen viele Zuhörer aus dem Bürgertum und Prominente wie Thomas Mann und Hermann Hesse teilnehmen. Sie geben die Zeitschrift “Moslemische Revue” und als erste Muslime eine deutsche Koranübersetzung heraus.</p> <p>Der Podcast “Muslimische Spuren in deutscher Heimat“ beschäftigt sich in dieser Folge mit Hugo Hamid Marcus, der die Einheit in der Vielfalt suchte, dessen Leben aber nach der Machtergreifung der Nationalsozialisten zunehmend eine tragische Wendung nahm.</p>

Goethe als Vorbild für deutsche Muslime
<p>Ein islamisches Bildungsbürgertum in Berlin, das aus Deutschen wie auch Migranten bestand, beschäftigte sich mit dem Verhältnis Johann Wolfgang Goethes zum Islam. Allen voran ist es der Philosoph Hugo Hamid Marcus, der Goethe als ein Vorbild für Muslime sieht. Dieser Gedanke ist erst einmal überraschend. Schaut man genau hin, dann sieht man, dass sich Goethe schon sehr früh mit dem Koran beschäftigte. Er ist 24 Jahre alt als ihn Herder auf eine neue Übersetzung des heiligen Buches der Muslime hinweist. Jahrzehnte später veröffentlicht er den „West-östlichen Divan“. Dieser Gedichtband ist eine Homage an den persischen Dichter Hafez, der dem pantheistischen Monotheisten Goethe als geistesverwandt erscheint.</p> <p>Es lohnt sich im Sinne der Suche nach muslimischen Spuren in deutscher Heimat, sich noch einmal mit der Auseinandersetzung Goethes mit dem Islam zu beschäftigen.</p>
