We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves to foster professional development, the exchange of ideas, and to provide a space for ongoing collegial community building. The association is dedicated to serving interprofessional, multi-disciplinary, and interdisciplinary engagement, scholarship, research, and the effort to advance the field of narrative practice and professional opportunities for the narrative community.<br>

Mindworks in Conversation: Dr. Ryan McCarthy

Narrative Mindworks chats with Dr. Ryan McCarthy about Appalachian stories and storytelling. Dr. Ryan is an "old-fashioned internal medicine doctor," one who works in office and hospital settings in his hometown of Martinsburg, WV. He is also a faculty member of the West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine who, in the spring of 2020, created Healthcare is Human (HIH) to chronicle his COVID-19 pandemic experience. HIH is a partnership of talented artists exploring meanings in all aspects of healthcare and creating beautiful artifacts in the process. To date, several short films have been produced, and HIH is the subject of a TEDx Talk.
