<p>Sikap OKI yang cenderung diam dipengaruhi oleh anggota-anggota OKI yang menjalin kerjasama dengan china dibidang ekonomi, politik, dan lain-lain. Sikap lunak OKI terhadap konflik Uighur ini sangat bertolak belakang dengan tindakan OKI yang seringkali ikut andil menyelesaikan permasalahan seputar isu islam. Contohnya dalam konflik irak, dimana sekertaris jendral OKI secara personal berusaha merangkul kelompok sunni dan syiah yang berkonflik untuk bersama-sama melakukan rekonsiliasi. Atas campur tangan OKI menghasilkan penandatanganan deklarasi Merkah pada oktober 2006. Bila dihubungkan dengan aspek politik ternyata terdapat kaitan isu Uighur dengan keinginan tersembunyi negara tertentu utamanya terkait strategi jalur sutra baru china untuk menyaingi amerika serikat. Hal ini kemudian menimbulkan strategi-strategi oleh negara-negara yang hendak menggagalkan rencana china menghadirkan jalur ekonomi baru untuk menguasai perekonomian global.</p>
