Podcast Overview

No Stage, Just a Chair is where I think out loud...about entrepreneurship, alignment, and the honest space between who we are and what we build. Most episodes are just me and a microphone, no script, no stage, no performance. But sometimes, I pull up another chair and talk with people who are wrestling toward clarity too. This isn’t a masterclass. It’s a seat at a table while I name what matters β€” for me, for the work, and maybe for you too. A podcast from Why Draft, a strategy studio focused on alignment-first identity and brand clarity. 🎧 New episodes on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple

Alone, Either One Fails You.

I am terrible at impressions. Can't do the accent, can't do the voice, never could. My son can. Not because he's more talented, because he's got the confidence to try and the sense to find the one true thing about the person he's doing.

The line doesn't have to be perfect. It has to be true.

A song that only needs a voice and a guitar. A dish so simple there's nowhere left to hide. A friend who couldn't say a kind thing about herself but nearly broke in half when I said it to her instead.

There's a difference between what's honest and what's true, and I've spent years assuming they were the same thing. They're not. Truth can still hurt. Honest can still be unhelpful. But when they line up, something happens. Recognition. You feel it before you understand it.

I don't have this figured out. I'm Full of Opinions. That's the Problem.

I used to tell clients to look for the guy in the red shirt. A friend pointed out I could just tell them I'd be the tallest person in the room.

I'd been standing that close to myself for years and still couldn't see the most obvious thing.

I come loaded with opinions. Always have. For a long time I thought that was what I was bringing into the room. The thing of value. Turns out the opinions only earn their place after something specific. After three words I have to fight myself to say and actually mean.

Not because they're hard. Because everything in me that has already decided, that wants to lead with the answer, leans against them every single time.

I'm still learning what it costs when I get the order wrong. And there's one conversation I'm still holding, months later, where I did.

🎧 No Stage, Just a ChairA podcast for people figuring it out as they go: building honest brands, real decisions, and work that feels like theirs.

Before You Listen:

Think of a conversation you walked into already knowing what you were going to say. Did you ever actually hear the other person?

When did you lead with your answer before actually listening? And what did it cost?

What would you have to quiet in yourself to say "tell me more" and actually wait for the answer?

The Loneliest City I've Ever Been In: How We Built the Headphone Moat

In 2003 I was on the subway in New York City and everyone around me had white headphones in. Little cords running down into their pockets. The city was full and it felt utterly lonely. That wasn't about New York.It showed up again at a birthday dinner in Tampa. At the barber shop. In the emergency room with my son. We keep finding new ways to be unreachable in rooms full of people. And somewhere in that drift, disconnection stopped being a mood and started being a default. Then I met a couple in Venice. They just lived differently. They went where their neighbors were. The bakery downstairs. The church in the square. The restaurant on the corner.I went home and put two plastic tables in my driveway and invited my neighbors.Somebody has to go first. Somebody has to set up the tables and risk that nobody shows up.Ten can't come if nobody invites them.🎧 No Stage, Just a ChairA podcast for people figuring it out as they go: building honest brands, real decisions, and work that feels like theirs. Before You Listen:- What's one place in your daily life where you're moving through without leaving any evidence you were there?- When is the last time you initiated an exchange in your daily life?
