<p>О самом значительном своём сражении - битве у реки Валерик, летом 1840-го года - Лермонтов писал друзьям очень скупо. Сослуживцы же отмечали его отчаянную храбрость. Ему было поручено наблюдать за ходом штурма, и Лермонтов гарцевал среди боя на белом как снег коне, молодецки заломив холщовую шапку, а потом с первыми рядами храбрейших солдат ворвался в неприятельские завалы.</p>
