The post-Pitt emotional hangover is real. Plus: a Bill Lawrence TV quiz, the case for and against letting kids watch Alien, a brush turkey nesting mound on the Greenway, and why everything in the eighties is a lot more hardcore. Listers
A documentary about competitive bird watching turns out to be one of the best things on YouTube. Plus: the Criterion Channel recommends feel-good films, a small Iranian boy tries to return a notebook, fiction gets a bad reputation, and nobody can remember the plot of Slaughterhouse-Five. Lunchbox Anxiety
The tyranny of the sandwich, a brief history of Marmite, and the nineteen twenties rebrand that absolutely nobody asked for. Hello again
We're back? After a short, five-year hiatus, Perception Issues returns with a brief reintroduction — covering crochet axolotls, the surprisingly brilliant green screen tech Disney invented in the sixties and then lost, and the eternal struggle of spelling onomatopoeia. Mentioned in this episode: Corridor Crew look at Disney's Prism (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQuIVsNzqDk) Sodium Vapor Process (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_vapor_process)

#13 - Walking and Talking during lockdown
Annabel and Ian return in these trying times with a new mobile format. Sort of. With COVID19 doing its thing around the world, A+I use their bi-weekly stroll for coffee (exercise) to talk about the pandemic, comfort in Youtube coffee and Scifi, and potentially filling a Succession-sized hole.

#12 - Nostalgia
Is Nostalgia good or bad? Has it become too powerful? Why are we obsessed with what was? When is a remake a worthy remake? Annabel mostly asks questions that neither Ian nor Annabel can answer. One thing we can agree on, Nostalgia has some serious Perception Issues. Show Notes: That Brighton man who doesn't wear modern clothing: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-england-sussex-48757020/the-brighton-tailor-whose-identity-became-his-business (https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-england-sussex-48757020/the-brighton-tailor-whose-identity-became-his-business) Bladerunner 2049 Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCcx85zbxz4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCcx85zbxz4)

#11 - Is social media evil?
Annabel tries to talk Ian down from the social media ledge. Is it evil? If so, when did that happen? Myspace was fun, right? Can humans be trusted with anything?

5 Jul 2019
#10 - Caught between two cultures
Ever heard of intragroup marginalisation? No, nor had we. But what effect can being caught between two (or more) cultures have on a person? How does that constant niggling fear of rejection or guilt potentially impact much larger emotions? Annabel and Ian discuss, examine this concept at a personal level and consider why it is so rarely talked about. SHOW NOTES: The original article http://theconversation.com/what-being-stuck-between-two-cultures-can-do-to-a-persons-psyche-80448 (http://theconversation.com/what-being-stuck-between-two-cultures-can-do-to-a-persons-psyche-80448) The Reply All episode We referred to a Reply All episode featuring Sal, a Syrian refugee living in Turkey, whose story is both heartbreaking and possibly scarily typical of so many in the present day. https://gimletmedia.com/shows/reply-all/5whgo2 (https://gimletmedia.com/shows/reply-all/5whgo2)

#9 - Emails
What are they trying to say? Ian and Annabel rant-lite about people losing the ability to speak like normal human beings when they enter the workplace. Bloated emails, I.M etiquette, acrid acronyms and baffling buzzwords. You get the picture.

25 Jun 2019
#8 - Salad Frosting
Is it a sauce? Is it a dressing? No! It's salad frosting. Annabel and Ian discover Kraft's latest big idea, discuss the perils of lying to your children + debate what's worse: lying or not eating veggies?

17 Jun 2019
#7 - No more zero days
How can you get anything done when life is sat on your chest like a yokozuna? Maybe a little bit at a time. AB and Ian have a quick chat about no more zero days, how incremental nudges might be the way forward if you know where you're trying to get to.

3 Aug 2018
#6 - Football, not soccer
Annabel and Ian return in record time to have a downbeat conversation about football (not soccer). They remember what football once was, how following a team from the other side of the world affects how you support it and what the World Cup will become with a seasonal change and more teams. Then they talk about the quality entertainment recently digested, including the Rock’s relationship with an albino gorilla, Wes Anderson’s latest, dance music you can’t dance to that isn't dance music, and a show about metal detectors that has them pining for the British countryside.

26 Jun 2018
#5 - Then and Now
Annabel and Ian get back on the podhorse, this time after a slightly shorter hiatus to talk about then and now. More specifically how revisiting films, books and music can lead to new findings, feelings or even disappointment. They then attempt to cover approx 6 months of media consumption, including a near three-hour film they actually watched in one sitting, why Annabel is back on physical books and Ian's pick for a future film score Oscar winner.

#4 - Mum's don't ride hover-boards as a rule, right?
Ian and Annabel return from a lengthy hiatus and reveal why they'll never see things the same way again (spoiler: parenthood). But, they refuse to become cliché baby-babblers and vow to fight the all too easy slide into exhaustion-fuelled blandness. Here is where pre and post-baby collide. Annabel is half asleep but ups her hoverboard game and Ian "lurches along in a kind of swaggery way, but then, is quite melancholy as well".

#2 - Read then watch or watch then read?
Hello, and well done, you’ve found episode two, in which Annabel and Ian weigh up the verbal and the visual; should you read the book before watching the film or is vice-versa a better bet? Does it even really matter!? They then chew over a few the things that have come their way recently including a cheery gangsta flick, Gerrard Butler once again getting shouty in front of a green screen, Aziz Ansari just getting it and they ask; is the Mockingjay A-OK? #1 - It's Only Words
Welcome to the first ever episode of Perception Issues, in which Annabel and Ian struggle to talk about just how hard talking can sometimes be. They then segue into talking about Matt Damon stuck on Mars, books with ‘girl’ in the title (and why if you read one you’ll probably read more), why watching people watch television can be much more than just that and finish with getting excited about Stephen Dorff.
