Portals is a group chat based social media startup which we talk about on this episode! :]
Portals started out of social media research for the Stanford BASES program by Usman Hanif and Eric Zhou. The task of the semester was to make a social media app. One month in they wanted to connect and interview influencers and thats where I came in. We spent all of February interviewing various influencers to see what are the best features in the space and what are the problems in the current social media scene. We came to the conclusion that group chats need to be optimized and there needs to be a group chat based social media app. We also came to the conclusion that social media is moving away from ads and moving in the direction of monetization directly from the influencer. This in subtraction services and platforms such as Paterson and OnlyFans. Currently we have a functioning app that has been alive for close to two months and we’re at 250 users. For funding we need 1,000-2,000 users and that’s the direction in which we’re heading going into the summer!
