Podcast Overview

The live radio hour archived as a podcast that explores censorship, defunding and repression. Broadcast live out of Berlin on DAB+ Chanel 7D monthly, and thereafter published as a podcast, with additional guest interviews dropping throughout the year. Meet performer and anthropologist Jara Nassar, independent radio activist of 10 years jewelz, and artist Alex Head. Where state repression of artistic freedom foreshadows the repression of the private citizen’s freedom of speech, this show will seek to turn the microphone, to witness how censorship and repression are re-shaping the cultural landscape of Berlin, while artists and activists find creative ways to communicate their urgent concerns to one another. All against a backdrop of evermore troubled relationships between artists, institutions, creative scenes and political commonalities. Each responding to policies emanating from the political Far Right to defund the arts, social infrastructure, education and welfare. Created with sub_ʇxǝʇ radio. Affiliated with Arts and Cultural Alliance Berlin.

Please rate us on your podcast app and share this project with 1 person today. Word of mouth is the best way for a show like ours to find an audience. Thank you.

Apartheid States with Adam Broomberg

From the Bantustans and townships of South Africa to the fractured lands of Palestine, overcoming apartheid has been a struggle across the lines of privilege.

Radio Against Repression is joined live in the studio by the artist Adam Broomberg. As a descendent of Jews who fled the Holocaust but benefited as whites from the apartheid regime in South Africa, Broomberg witnessed the subtle interweaving of Zionist and apartheid ideologies. Adam joins Radio Against Repression to discuss the complex paradoxes of twentieth-century diasporic communities during a period of upheaval that continues to inform the artist’s interrogation of photography’s power, complicity and banality.

Music:

The Flame Thrower - Soweto Kinch - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akpIBYL-Q5U

Otis - The Durutti Column - https://thedurutticolumn.bandcamp.com/track/otis

No Love - Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah - https://ropeadopeselect.bandcamp.com/track/no-love

Please rate us on your podcast app and share this project with 1 person today.
