Throughout my career, I have encountered numerous challenges in the field. Currently, we are grappling with a pressing issue this summer: water scarcity. The inadequate water supply in the river poses a significant threat to our crops, with limited availability only in the morning. My name is Kannan, and I am a farmer in the Kerkampai region. I am engaged in cultivating carrots, and other crops. Regrettably, my previous attempt at carrot farming resulted in substantial losses. Despite this setback, I have reinvested a total of one lakh rupees into carrot farming this time. I am Thangapan, and I work as a farmer. I have been involved in agriculture for 10 years and have worked in various areas. Eventually, I chose agriculture as it proves to be more profitable than other ventures. While we do face occasional losses, two months ago, we experienced a significant decline in profit margins due to a drop in carrot prices, impacting many farmers. However, upon analysis, we acknowledge that agriculture remains a profitable business overall. The increasing involvement of teenagers in this field could potentially have a significant impact on our economy, and I am hopeful that this change will occur soon. Furthermore, as farmers, we also contribute to educating many students, particularly teenagers, about farming.

I work as an IT team leader in a call center job at Nawa company, and in the evenings, I conduct a "ILLAM THEDI KALVI" class for school students in my town. I have been married for 12 years and have witnessed many changes since moving from my birth house to my husband's house. His family has been very supportive of my progress. I am determined to pursue a postgraduate degree. With my husband's support, I continued my education after marriage. During my second pregnancy, I studied diligently for nine months, a moment of great pride for me. I firmly believe that women have the strength to overcome any obstacles. Following my studies, I secured a job and now work from home. I owe a debt of gratitude to my aunt for her immense support. She played a significant role in assisting me when my second child was one year old, and I hold her in high regard, akin to my own mother. When reflecting on the contributions of women, our culture traditionally limited women's educational opportunities. However, women today excel in various fields, navigating the challenges of balancing family responsibilities with their professional commitments, showcasing their resilience and adaptability. Education plays a crucial role in empowering girls, and I am grateful for the unwavering support of my husband and aunt in my educational journey. This change isn't due to the people, but rather because of the farming methods. Since the farming methods in the Nilgiris are poor, we should stop using harmful chemicals. In the past, we didn't spend much on seeds, but now we do. Why do we need to change the farming methods? Because there is a big market for the vegetables that grow in the Nilgiris, and we farmers don't address it.
