Rome 120

About Rome 120

The 120 stands for two minutes, or 120 seconds. ROME 120 endeavors to introduce the brilliance of the Catholic faith by jamming lots of information into quick, tiny episodes. Before diving into Aquinas or Augustine or any of the other great Catholic minds, many of us need an on-ramp. We need something to spark a little curiosity and give us a nugget of knowledge. Then we can roll forward and dive into deeper waters. Our faith is brilliant. Jump in with Deacon Eric. Just the Cliff Notes

Nowadays you hear people talking about 'my truth'.  What is that?  If the sky is blue and that is true, how can that truth be yours? Or mine?  Culture has evolved away from objective, universal truth into a self-defined reality for each person.  Yet our great church has quietly collected, analyzed, prayed for, and revealed God's truth for centuries.  What is appealing about waking up everyday and deciding for yourself what is right, wrong, acceptable, unacceptable? Sounds exhausting.  Gotta start somewhere. #faith #rules #love #truth

   Grandpa's Ashes

Funerals have fallen off the cultural priority list it seems.  Grandpa dies and inevitably the obituary reads that a celebration of life will take place in a couple of months.  How sad.  We need to celebrate the passing of those who walk with us through life.  The catechism is clear about the proper care and disposal of the body.  The funeral rites are the critical last step in life.  They must be honored.  And, for the record, don't scatter Grandpa's ashes at the boat launch.  Gotta start somewhere. #funeral #cremation #endoflife #love #catechism

   Chandelier Saturday Night

Don't watch the pornos.  Simple advice and almost everyone in a committed relationship would agree.  The catechism nails the topic to the wall in one paragraph.  The fantasy world of being a spectator to airbrushed bodies engaged in some kind of erotic gymastics session is never going to translate to real-life.  Never.  Gotta start somewhere. #ses #porn #faith #sacramentalmarriage #catholic #love #catechism #saturdaynight #romance #love
