La obra, diseñada en el siglo XVIII y rematada en el primer tercio del XIX, solo concluyó una parte de aquel sueño, pues en su concepción inicial pretendía unir Reinosa con Segovia. No alcanzó ninguno de esos hitos, por lo que el punto más meridional, donde la realidad puso fin a la ambición, fue la dársena de Valladolid, desde donde le invitamos a este viaje.
