The Life I Keep Studying Instead of Living
How many times have you revised the same sentence, researched one more option, listened to one more podcast, or told yourself you were still waiting for clarity—when the next step was already clear?
Sometimes preparation is wise. Important decisions deserve care, safety planning, prayer, research, and responsible timing. But preparation can also become a sophisticated form of avoidance: a way to remain busy without risking rejection, criticism, disappointment, or consequence.
In this episode, Rev. Felecia O’Neal explores the hidden comfort of being almost ready. Insight can name our pain, restore dignity to our experiences, and help us understand why we feel stuck. Yet understanding alone cannot apologize, submit the application, initiate the conversation, ask for help, or release the work we have been protecting.
Drawing from John 6, this conversation examines the difference between receiving nourishment and allowing that nourishment to sustain an actual life. The crowd received bread, but Jesus invited them beyond consumption and into relationship, responsibility, and transformation. In the same way, we can consume sermons, books, therapy language, podcasts, and spiritual insight while resisting the places where truth must become visible.
You will be invited to consider:
* Are you preparing toward a recognizable threshold, or continually moving the definition of readiness?
* Are you building a bridge toward action, or simply paving the side of the river where you already feel safe?
* Has “protecting my peace,” “giving myself grace,” or “waiting on God” become language that shields you from necessary accountability?
* What might become real if you finally pressed send, spoke aloud, asked for help, or took the next faithful step?
Coming unfinished does not mean acting recklessly or abandoning thoughtful preparation. It means refusing to wait until fear disappears, certainty is guaranteed, or the outcome can be controlled before participating in your own life.
Insight can bring you to the door.Action is how you walk through it.
Choose one small, concrete step that allows the truth you already understand to live somewhere beyond your thoughts.
You do not need to have read Come Unfinished before listening. Come with the questions, decisions, and unfinished work you are actually carrying.
