pop for consideration "trrrryinggg to sleeeep" mix ~ (5/3/23)
this is a pre-recorded show that will be broadcast on Clyde Built Radio (glasgow) on the 5th of March ~ track list here: 1. "///" by shannen moser (2014) ~ philly, usa i've been a fan of shannen moser basically since "all dogs go to heaven" came out, and it soundtracked my own venturing into lofi pop songwriting, as a musician but also as a listener. it's amazing to see how far they've progressed as a songwriter however this and "you shouldn't be doing that" will always be nostalgic go-tos for me, particularly for the how emotionally haunting the production is, despite being so rough sonically. really taught me that lofi recordings could bring their own magic that hifi stuff just couldn't replicate ~ 2. "river dream" by pudding club (2022) ~ new york, usa discovered "songs before bed" during a youtube hole a few months back and fell for the simple but lush instrumentation, a really hypnotic addition to the emerging neo-lofi/leftfield canon. know v little about the artist who made it but as ever i marvel at the beautiful work that exists on the plain of the internet and the stuff that is still continuing to be made by just people making stuff, real special thing. 3. "reeling" by sean armstrong (2023)~ berlin, germany/glasgow, scotland a recent demo by stalwart of the '10s glasgow scene sean armstrong (spinning coin/the sean armstrong experience), now living in berlin with partner/collaborator rocky lorelei (spinning coin/hairband). a continuation of similar demo work of recent months, this is a subtly sweet love ballad with bright melodic passages so rich that i can even hear the warm accompanying walkin' bass and simple rhythmic drums as of yet to be included. will likely edit and continue descriptions another time, must get up and go to work!!!!! 4. "guitar with talking" by interesting (2022) ~ georgia, usa 5. "lazy brain" by euros childs (2016) ~ cardiff, wales 6. "nene valley overture" by let's go (2023) ~ glasgow, scotland 7. "street heat" by fat transfer (2003) ~ oakland, usa 8. "other side" by spencer radcliffe (2015) ~ ohio, usa 9. "the dark is singing songs" by the music tapes (2012) ~ georgia, usa 10. "train song" by vashti bunyan (1965) ~ london/newcastle-on-tyne, england 11. "christmas eve" by gorky's zygotic mynci (1999) ~ cardiff, wales 12. "spanish love song" by gorky's zygotic mynci (1999) ~ cardiff, wales 13. "on that morning when this life is over" by trust fund (2014) ~ bristol, england 14. "unconditional love" by "powersource" jason zelda (2020) ~ tennessee, usa i can never either get time or know if it's worth doing patter in-between. the shows end up being only an hour long and i tend to have to cobble them together last minute due to scheduling issues so sometimes it doesn't always feel entirely "real", just a mix i made etc. but i'd like to be more structured w/it, certainly for the podcast feed. unlimited hangout kinda dissolved due to differences in what kinda content to put out but neither me (eliot), jordan or liam have seemingly managed to put anything together in post but i have the soundcloud feed so, here we are. hope you enjoy this slightly snoozy playlist ~
