This episode is all about terms and definitions. I know, everybody’s favorite topic!!!! But stick with me, because I’m untangling the difference between serial and serialization, why “installment” vs. “chapter” vs. “scene” isn’t just pedantry, and why I call myself a storyteller more often than an author. I also break down the subscription model that actually matters for serializing authors: not the Netflix version, but the “readers pay you directly” version such as Patreon, Substack, Ream, and what happens once you decide you don’t need the middleman anymore.

Unstoppable Storytelling with KimBoo York is your weekly dispatch from the working end of serialization. Less hype and more of an author, librarian, and historian of text technology taking a wrench to the myths about how serials actually get built and sold.

Readers are Waiting for YOU!
“My readers won’t follow me into serials” is one of the most common fears authors have about this whole renaissance thing — and it just isn’t true. This episode digs into reader psychology: why the cliffhanger-or-die advice misses the point, what a slow Nirvana in Fire teatime scene taught me about real engagement, and why book readers and serial readers were never actually two different species. I also get practical about where serial readers already are and how to reach them, cold-start or not.

You're Already In It
Episode 2
You’re living through a renaissance right now, you just don’t know it yet. In this episode, I draw a straight line from the early internet and the 2010 self-publishing boom to today’s serialization moment, and make the case that nobody recognizes a renaissance while they’re standing inside it.
I talk fandom, drafting in public, “Make More Pots,” and why the real question isn’t “is serialization worth my time” but “do you have stories you want to tell.” Fair warning: there’s a little bit of paint-outside-the-lines pep talk in here too.

You’re Not Too Late
In this inaugural episode, I make the case that we're living through a genuine serialization renaissance—not a retrospective one, the kind you're standing inside of right now.
I trace the throughline from Dickens to LiveJournal fandom to Substack, explain why "own your platform" has become the defining shift of this moment, and level with you about oversaturation, reader trust, and why you are not too late to get in on this.
