Sorority Culture Ep. 1: Introduction
<p>In this episode, I will be discussing what a sorority is and the common aspects of sorority life and culture. </p> <p>New terms found in this episode:</p> <p><strong>Chapters:</strong> divisions of a large Greek organization that differ per school</p> <p><strong>Rush period:</strong> where potential members are "vetted" to see if they are a good fit for the organization</p> <p><strong>Pledging period:</strong> a probation period for the new members where they are to participate in every aspect of Greek life, proving they are worthy of being in the organization</p> <p><strong>Bid:</strong> an invitation to join a Greek organization which is given after the rush period</p> <p><strong>Dues:</strong> fees that members must pay per month or per semester to be considered active</p> <p><strong>Bigs:</strong> active members of a Greek organization that act as a mentor/big sibling for a new member</p> <p><strong>Littles:</strong> the new or potential member that a Big is assigned to</p> <p><strong>Twins:</strong> when two or more members in a Greek organization have the same Big</p> <p><strong>Family line:</strong> the connection between every Big and Little that can sometimes go as far back as the founding members</p> <p><strong>Chapter houses:</strong> where members of a chapter may reside or hold events</p> <p><strong>Hazing:</strong> commonly associated with the bullying or harassment of a new or potential member of an organization</p>
