When we think of the music industry, we often immediately bring household names to mind - huge artists, songwriters, and producers who define what we listen to. But there are legions of incredible people just like them who haven't broken into the public eye in the same way yet, but who work tirelessly every day to be heard. This is for them. As an artist and songwriter myself, I find myself in that world every day, and the one voice I've wanted to hear in the podcast realm has been theirs - so I decided to make one myself. Welcome to the WTBH family.
In a first, I'm releasing a solo episode - where I process the biggest news of my career so far, signing a record deal with V2 Benelux (https://www.v2benelux.com/), one of the biggest indie labels in Europe. Processing this news and allowing myself to enjoy a victory feels like something so, so rare in a career that has seen me get to within arm's length of this goal so many times, and I thought what better way to do it than out loud with nothing but a microphone in front of me.
The first single is called 'Walk Over My Friends' and you can pre-save it here (https://orcd.co/walkovermyfriends).

Ep. 4: Adam Kronowski
Today's guest is Adam Kronowski, a writer, producer, and artist who resides in Los Angeles. We first met at Berklee College of Music and his journey since has been nothing short of inspiring. Not only has he made his mark with his solo metal band 'Kronowski', and built a global audience along the way, but he's also one half of a sleep sounds project that went from sustaining coffee once a week - to paying the rent entirely. Adam and I talk about the stability that college brought us, how our careers in music have been affected by our battles with mental health, and why he was once known as 'Man in the Wig'.

Ep. 3: Pat Kiloran (Nobody Likes You Pat)
Today's guest is Pat Kiloran, aka Nobody Likes You Pat, an artist, songwriter, and producer from the US who I was first introduced to in the summer of 2021. We wrote a slew of deep, impactful pop songs, including 'One Day Before I Die', which he released earlier this year as a single, and we continue to stay in touch and create together. This episode definitely deserves a second part - there was just too much that I wanted to keep, yet had to cut quite a bit for time. We talk about artistry & parenthood, how art being so deeply connected to the person of the artist may actually end up being a damaging practice for the creator, and songwriting as something which doesn't necessarily have to take away from everything else in your life for you to enjoy it.
Check out Pat's 2021 EP, 'spinning' for a brief taste of what Pat is capable of.

Ep. 2: Charlie Snyder
Today's guest is Charlie Snyder, an American songwriter & producer who's worked with some incredible acts, including Bebe Rexha, Illenium, and Chloe Moriondo. He and I started working together before I even moved to LA, and he was instrumental in convincing me to make that move. He became one of my most frequent collaborators, a trusted friend, and someone with whom I came to share so much. We talk about the importance of joy, the pressure of success, and how to stay true to yourself amidst the chaos of such a demanding industry.

Ep. 1: Kasper Larsen
Today's guest is Kasper Larsen, a Danish producer who's worked with some incredible acts, including Calum Scott, Selena Gomez, and The Wanted. He and I have worked together frequently since our first Zoom session in 2021, and every session always starts with a great conversation - so that's what I wanted to capture here. We talk about pain as a driver of growth, climate change, and stuffed ducks.

Welcome to Write to be Heard!
Welcome to Write to be Heard! I'm Robert Gillies - artist, songwriter, & producer - and I've felt for a long time that one of the voices missing from music industry podcasts were those who weren't household names, but who work just as hard to be heard. I am blessed to work with these people almost every day, incredible artists, songwriters, and producers who create some incredible music; I wanted to provide a platform to hear from them, to hear about the struggles, the victories, the ways in which they keep themselves going through periods of creative or professional drought, in one of the most toxic industries in the world.
