"I only wanted to see you bathing in the purple rain"

Hey there, movie lovers! It’s Mako, your friendly film talk podcast host.
Today, I’ve got a special guest from the #PokeNuma crew—welcome, Oma!
We’re diving into a classic coming-of-age film today: Prince’s Purple Rain.
Now, here’s the thing—Prince isn’t as widely known in Japan as MJ. Weird, right? Madonna, MJ, and Prince—the three biggest pop icons of their time, all born the same year. And yet, for some reason, Prince never really hit that mainstream recognition here.
But listen, you need to know Prince.
He was a boundary-breaking, genre-smashing, one-of-a-kind legend. The man didn’t just play music—he was music. He was never boxed in by labels, and that’s exactly why he’s still untouchable.
So, if you’ve ever brushed him off as “too much,” stop that right now. Just hit play. Trust me, it’s a trip.
And speaking of trips—Prince’s Purple Rain performance at the Super Bowl halftime show? Absolute chills. Pure euphoria. Life-changing.
I’m Mako (@_macobana), and this is the official account for my podcast “YomoyamaKobanashi”—a place where I spill all the thoughts I couldn’t fit into my main show, “Pocket ni Numa wo” (#).
Sometimes, I bring in guests for a chat, too. New episodes drop weekly or biweekly—stay tuned!
