הדו שיח בין מרדכי ואסתר, בשעת המבחן הגדולה של אסתר מגלה נקודה מפתיעה בדברי מרדכי. מרדכי מתעקש שאסתר תסכן את חייה ותיכנס אל המלך, אבל הוא גם בטוח ש'רווח והצלה יעמוד ליהודים ממקום אחר'. מנקודה זו בין מרדכי לאסתר אנו למדים על הצורך החזק בשתי התנועות האלו - מצד אחד ביטחון חזק בקב"ה ואמונה שלמה בישועתו. מצד שני הצורך להיות בהשתדלות גדולה, לעשות הכל ואף לסכן את החיים בשביל עם ישראל.

מרדכי לא יכרע ולא ישתחווה - קשוח, לא נבהל, לא נשבר מגזירות המן. וילבש שק ואפר - מרדכי יודע להביע כאב, יודע להיתפס בחולשתו, גם בממלכה שבה 'אין להגיע לשער המלך בלבוש שק' והכל צריך להיות תמיד בסדר - גם שם מרדכי מצליח להביע כאב. גיבורי המגילה מביעים כאב בדרכים שונות, אחשוורוש מוציא את ושתי להורג כי פגעה בו, המן מבקש להשמיד את כל היהודים שבעיניו פוגעים בממלכה. מרדכי מלמד שכאב הוא תנועה פנימית, שיש לה מקום. המציאות חסרה וזה פותח לנו את הפתח לשוחח עם המציאות ולגדול מתוכו לצמיחה והתקדמות.

.מי הגיבור של המגילה? תלוי איך מספרים...סיפור אחד הוא סיפור של יהודי גוֹלה, שלא כורע ולא משתחווה - שומר על זהותו ונאמנותו וניצל.סיפור אחר הוא סיפור של מי שעולה לגדולה במהירות והגדוּלה עולה לו לראש, וכגודל העלייה כך גודל הנפילה - מצבו נהפך עליו ובעץ שהכין הוא בסוף נתלה.סיפור נוסף הוא סיפורו של מי שהתגלגל להיות בקדמת הבמה ועכשיו נדרש לשאול האם יידאג לעצמו או לאחר - ומי יודע אם לעת כזו הגעת למלכות.
