La #leyenda de #SanEustaquio El santo patrono de los cazadores San Eustaquio fue un general romano a las órdenes del emperador Trajano. Durante una jornada de caza en solitario por los Montes vio acercarse un ciervo y en el momento de armar su ballesta vio entre la cornamenta del animal un crucifijo emitiendo destellos seguido de la voz de Dios que se dirigió a él por su nombre. En ese mismo instante dicen que se convirtió al cristianismo y adoptó el nombre de Eustaquio. Cuando volvió a Roma -tras varias victorias en las que se negó a ofrecer sacrificios a los dioses- fue acusado ante Adriano, quien ordenó que lo arrojaran a las fieras del circo, si bien estas milagrosamente le respetarían. Cuenta la leyenda que finalmente el emperador mandó fundir un gran toro de bronce hueco y en el vientre de la escultura encerró a Eustaquio y su familia, que murieron abrasados tras ponerlos al fuego. La Iglesia elevó a los altares años después al pagano convertido al cristianismo y fue tomado por los cazadores como santo patrón.
