The Haz Al-Din Interview (ft. Infrared Haz)

Get access to The Backroom, with 100+ exclusive episodes of 1Dime Radio, on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/OneDime In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by Haz Al-Din, Chairman of the American Communist Party and host of Infrared, a long-requested and highly controversial guest. We get into why Infrared broke with the American left, MAGA Communism and patriotic socialism, China and the limits of liberal democracy, what socialism with American characteristics could actually mean, the failures of Soviet socialism, markets vs. planning, and whether AI and cybernetics are pushing us toward a radically different economic system. In the Patreon-exclusive Backroom, I press Haz harder on whether he is really a Marxist or closer to what I call a national-conservative socialist. We also get more personal about our shared Lebanese heritage and experiences growing up in Lebanese immigrant families, along with Islam, Christianity, socialism, culture, and the strange overlap between our backgrounds despite our political disagreements. You can listen to 1Dime Radio on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get podcasts. The Haz Al-Din Interview (ft. Infrared Haz)

Published 9 Oct 2026 · Transcript excerpt

[…] The first American socialists and even communists were very seamlessly American. I mean, whether we're talking about Eugene Debs. Marx. Marx wanted to move to Texas. Yeah, absolutely. He wrote for the same magazine as some of the people who founded the Stoiler Party. There was no existential confrontation of ideologies. It was so seamless for a socialist or a communist to just be like, yeah, I'm an American. I'm just an American. This is the American way. These are the true American values. This is actually the faithful. This is what is in faithful continuity to the American Revolution and to Lincoln and the Civil War. […]
