2 Black Guys Talk Godzilla is an award-winning podcast where Black film critics Aaron Neuwirth, a major Godzilla devotee, and Terence Johnson, Godzilla curious, work their way through the entire Godzilla franchise one film at a time.
From the original 1954 Toho classic to the latest MonsterVerse entry, every episode brings two distinct perspectives, deep film knowledge, and the kind of honest, energizing conversation that only happens when one person cares deeply and the other is still deciding.

This week, Godzilla faces a prehistoric dragonfly and the Dimension Tide. On this episode of 2 Black Guys Talk Godzilla (https://open.substack.com/pub/2blackguystalkgodzilla), we look at a new monster and another ambitious sci-fi plot in 2000’s Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, directed by Masaaki Tezuka. This entry finds the guys asking a lot of questions regarding just how over-the-top it is to introduce black holes into this series. There’s plenty to say about what this Millennium-era entry does to stand out, what it adds to the series, and whether or not the King of the Monsters is good at squashing bugs. Enjoy!

Ep. 32 - Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999)
This week, Godzilla returns to Japan and is badder than ever. On this episode of 2 Black Guys Talk Godzilla, Aaron and Terence cover Toho’s efforts to recover from their miserable experience with America’s first attempt at Godzilla by delivering Godzilla 2000: Millennium, directed by Takao Okawara. This would mark the beginning of the franchise’s Millennium Era. There’s plenty to say about what this latest era brings to the franchise, how it differs from the others, what this entry adds to the series, and other notable aspects of this movie’s release. Enjoy!

This week we are drawn towards a different kind of Godzilla that’s come up a few times over the decades - his animated adventures. On this episode of 2 Black Guys Talk Godzilla (https://open.substack.com/pub/2blackguystalkgodzilla), Aaron and Terence move away from the live-action films for a spell to look back at Hanna-Barbera’s Godzilla animated series that ran from 1978 to 1979, as well as Godzilla: The Series, the animated spin-off of the Roland Emmerich film that ran from 1998 to 1999. There’s plenty to say about what both shows offered in terms of their similar premises, animation style, and more. And that’s still before we get to the Godzooky of it all. Enjoy!
