"Irresponsible and Selfish:" Lathena's OB Was Wrong, and Momma Enjoyed Her Coffee

In this Herstoric episode, we delve into Lathena's tumultuous journey through first birth, marked by painful moments that led her to some empowering questions. It's a story of resilience, defiance, and the quest for respectful care. Lathena's story begins with the use of Cytotec, a medication to induce labor, which led to contractions that tested her endurance. But that was just the beginning. A nurse, who seemed to have an endless stream of commentary, added to the chaos, making Lathena's experience even more challenging. As if that wasn't enough, the premature clamping of the umbilical cord left Lathena feeling that her wishes and preferences weren't respected. Frustration and a sense of disempowerment filled her. However, these moments of adversity ignited a determination in Lathena. She realized she needed a maternity care option that would honor her choices, her voice, and her birth experience. With unwavering resolve, she embarked on a journey to find a provider who would treat her with respect and give her the opportunity to prove herself. And she did it! Against the odds, Lathena achieved a remarkable triumph, demonstrating that with the right support and respect, a mother's strength knows no bounds. Tune in to hear how Lathena's story unfolds, from a challenging start to an inspiring finish. Including that hot delicious steam of the first coffee in her own living room. Topics Covered: - Cytotec/ Misoprostol induction - Waters Breaking before labor begins - Birth Trauma without "medical complication" - Delayed cord clamping (or not) - What happens when a woman is actually listened to? Who does she know herself to be? And how does that change what she DOES going forward in her life? hmmmm.... - WHY ARE SOME PROVIDERS NOT LISTENING TO MOTHERS!!!???? 3 kids, A Loss, and then Her Rainbow Baby: Daisy's Pure Next Birth

Daisy's story is like none other. 3 charming children born of 3 hospital births, then a 4th baby, stillborn, lost during Covid among providers scared to touch or treat her. Daisy's parents believed there was a better way for her. Daisy came looking for a Partera, like her parents knew from their Mexican village : the traditional world where midwives are a long line of women who support the women in their village in their birthing. She googled "midwife" and found home birth. In this bubbly podcast, Daisy describes the treatment she received in all 4 of her births and how those births lit a fire in her to find something else. Her parents had seen something better and pointed her in her direction where, she found her way. You can't help but hear wisdom and love when Daisy speaks. She is like none other. I love her so much. You, dear listener, will have a joy in your heart too as her words touch your heart. A Better Next Birth is a production of See Midwives LLC.
